Bed Bugs - FAQ's

What Are Bedbugs?

Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) in the UK as in other areas are a clever bunch of blood sucking bugs and in Clevedon, demand for bed bug control is on the increase due too a huge rise in bug numbers. Getting rid of Bed bugs and eliminating the spread of bedbugs can be very difficult as they are about the size of a lentil and very, very flat so fit in the smallest of gaps imaginable. Lets imagine for a moment you have a piece of paper - well if that piece of paper can slide into a gap, then so can a bed bug. They like to feed on warm blooded animals like us, and are often brought into our homes in Clevedon on clothing etc, on return from trips away from home.

What Do Bed-Bugs Look Like?

This well fed bedbug was blatantly situated on the wall directly above its host (victim) and as the picture shows is quite distended with a stomach that is very obviously full of human blood.

These bed bugs were concealed within the head board frame of a bed and had caused significant discomfort to the occupants over a considerable period of time. Hiding places like this are common sites of infestation harbourage as are the frame joints which need to be stripped right down to be confident of successful bedbug eradication and elimination.

What Are The Signs of Bed-Bug Activity?

These pictures show some of the most common and obvious signs of bed bug activity and should give you a valuable opportunity to assess your premises. So quite simply if you are being bitten a couple of times a night and only one room is affected then chances are control will be straight forward. however lets for a moment say you and the other people in your home or guest house etc are getting bitten then the whole property may require treatment.

Blood stains on sheets caused skin trauma when bed bugs puncture skin.

Bed bugs do indeed penetrate human skin and as such are often attracted to areas where blood flow is greatest and is close to the skin surface. as a result they often cause penetration into rich vascular areas of skin where blood flow is high and bleeding is an inevitable consequence of direct tissue trauma. On the following image you can see where the victim has bleed following a puncture wound caused by a feeding bed bug.

Are Bed Bugs Dangerous?

When these insects are abundant they can take so much blood form an infant during a nights feed that over a short time the child will show signs of iron deficiency or anaemia.

Tests have been carried out that have shown bed bugs crossing a ceiling, then dropping onto a persons bed to feed - so even protecting your bed might not prove enough protection against bedbugs.

Over the past year we have helped a large number of our Clevedon bed bug pest control customers to wipe out bed bugs in the home. You can often spot that you have a problem with bed bugs simply by looking around the edges of your mattress, under the folded Seams. If you find small, oval, flattened insects and you have dark speckles around them or near by then you need to get things treated. Two huge infestations we tackled last year in Clevedon presented a huge challenge, but as usual we succeeded in taking control and eliminating them.

Where Do Bed Bugs Come From?

Bedbugs are a parasite naturally found in the environment, and in association with warm blooded animals. Having bedbugs does not mean you are dirty, it simply means in most cases That you have been unlucky. Most bed bugs are carried into homes on luggage, so those who travel a great deal tend to be most at risk, which is why September and October are the busiest times for bedbug treatments. people go away on holiday, pick up bedbugs and two to eight weeks later discover they are not alone at night! Another common cause is of infestation is where an adjoining property is affected and the bed bugs migrate through the structure of the building. This is by far the most difficult situation to manage, as the neighbour who has the problem, often does not care and ultimately won't pay for a bedbug treatment either.

When Are Bed Bugs Most Active?

They are most active at night especially in the early hours. The simple fact remains however that if it is dark and cool then your your body will produce enough heat and carbon dioxide to promote feeding activity, whatever the time of day.

How Can I Stop Bed Bugs?

A combined, integrated and professional approach is normally the only thing that will crush a colony of bed bugs. Treatments when done properly are not cheep, but if you decide to suffer in silence then large infestations affecting entire properties and not simply a single room will end up costing a thousand pounds or more to treat effectively and take a couple of months to completely eliminate. Our prices start at £39.00 so you can at the very least get your particular problem professionally assessed.

How Long Does It Take To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs?

It depends on a number of factors, but if carried out properly a single treatment should suffice. If however more than one room is affected, then it will take longer as this usually means they have been given sufficient time to reach such numbers that the rest of the property is now infested.

What Does A Bed Bug Treatment Cost? Our Prices Start From £39.00.

This kind of treatment is expensive, no matter who you use. A typical domestic treatment takes about three hours and a hotel will need the rooms above, below, either side and in front to be treated also. Luckily we are experts and fully understand how to do this effectively. A can of bedbug spray sold for amateur use, is in most cases not strong enough to tackle a bug population properly, which is why it is far better value to bring us in at the start and avoid the infestation time to spread further in the property. Bed bugs are also showing signs of resistance to chemical control, so carrying out ad hoc spray treatments to save money may cost you far more in the longer term if these treatments do not completely work.

Being experts in insect control means our services are faster, more thorough and more flexible than many other providers. We are usually on site within hours or even faster if it is an emergency.

How Quickly Can You Get To Us?

Our standard, same day Pest Control Service for the elimination and control of Bed Bugs is always available, and for extra peace of mind our 24 Hour Emergency Pest Control Service operates 24/7 so help is never far away.

Pest Control Advice:

Getting rid of Bed Bugs and other insects like ants, fleas and bedbugs is not as simple as many pesticide manufacturers will lead you to believe. The chemicals or poisons on offer in supermarkets and shops often have a fraction of the effect that is achieved through professional products and this means you are likely to get through many cans of treatment without actually achieving full control. As the only Clevedon pest control company offering a dedicated insect control service, we are able to deliver pest control treatments that are often guaranteed to work.

Pest control is all about understanding the pest you are trying to eliminate or prevent. The Wasp for example creates a wasp nest early in the year so if you wanted to control wasps in Clevedon you would probably guess that checking for a new wasp nest in your loft in April and May would allow you to remove a wasp nest safely before it became too large. By understanding your pest, you are able to plan control in advance, before infestation occurs and the cost of elimination becomes high.

WaspKill UK are here to help - so why not give us a call and put your trust in the experts.
